Oh, I see. Right, no, my concern was definitely coming from a functionality standpoint; while I admit I do have some tags that I only add for flavor, the vast majority (despite being worded in a way that probably only makes sense to me) do serve a functional purpose.
For example, say I'm tagging with Caspian and a discussion comes up about a horse race that he and Rosella once had, and the only thing I can remember about the thread is that it probably took place in the summer, but I need to reread it for some reason. I know there's a tag in Rosella's journal that reads "i already have a pony", which I use on all of her horse-related posts. One click instantly provides me with a list of all posts that involve the relevant topic--her horse--and I can skim through more easily to find the one I'm looking for--one dated probably in the summer. If I had to search solely by name and date in a community, in contrast, I might have dozens of summer-based posts to search through as opposed to the handful of specifically horse-related ones I'd have in her own journal. It's just less efficient.
As for the memories option, that is an alternative solution, but I don't know if I feel like it's necessarily a comparable one, when the whole point of a tag system in general is to make finding posts as efficient as possible, and going the memory route seems as though it would take a lot longer to utilize, be clunkier in general, and just not as suitable for the same purpose.
