Yeah, pretty much! A compromise always ends up with an extra step. The reason why I like the fake cut compromise though is that the only people who have to do it is those who really, really want to play in their journal as opposed to the comm post - thus actively willing to go that "distance" of the c/p function. It's not an extra step to reply to those sorts of posts because you still click one link to reply, as we do normally.
And as long as we all remember to tag the community posts with some sort of system to keep track, it's at least all there. It's not aesthetically pleasing insofar as looking at the comm page and seeing posts with no comments, but hey, it's something anyway.
