MASSIVE UPDATE OF DOOM

This is a novella. Please do not fear the massive body of text!

☆Polychromatic’s NEW Character Death Policy☆

So you might be thinking to yourself "What is this graveyard doing in Xanadu? Should my character be worried? Are the deities playing a prank?" Wonder no more, there is a purpose to all this madness. And yes the flamingos are still there.

Before we explain what this entails, we would like to mention that character death will be accepted only under the most strict circumstances. And even so, character “death” is not truly permanent. This is for the purpose of plot device in story lines.

→This is only if you don't want your character to be revived 24 hours later, and if you want a more 'dramatic' death so to speak. Characters can still be 'temporarily' killed, but it will only last 24 hours, and then they will be half-revived (no heart beat, cooler skin, less alert).
→Character death must be part of a planned storyline or plot that directly involves more than one character (dropping a character on your own does not qualify).
→Players of any characters directly involved within the storyline must be aware of the decision to kill another character (if there is a general sense of disapproval amongst players regarding this decision then the death will not be approved).
→The storyline must be laid out in detail to be reviewed by all mods.
→If approved, the death period will last only one month in which the character will remain on the Taken List and not be available for application.
→Players are not allowed to change their decision by requesting to pick up the dead character before the one month period ends (they may re-apply afterward but the character must be reset, this applies to fandom and OCs).
→Any detection of OOC malice or abuse of this policy is grounds for immediate mod intervention.

We’re not expecting this to be a frequently used plot device so any death requests shall be posted to the Q&A:|:FAQ section. Specific details such as character, other characters involved, storyline, etc. will be discussed in an arranged chat with mods. Meanwhile, funerals and gravestones are optional for a dead character, but if the character is reset due to a new applicant the gravestone shall be mysteriously erased.

☆Cleaning UP the Mess☆

We are fully aware that Polychromatic requires improvement in several administrative areas such as the Taken Character list, the For Rent list, the Add/Remove list and an activity check. We apologize for the months long delay in getting these areas back into shape. We are working as hard as we can to improve in these administrative areas while maintaining the game play environment.

As a reminder, players must post to the Add/Remove List if they wish to be added or removed. We would really appreciate this courtesy anytime a player joins or leaves the community. Posting to the Dropped thread is important so that we can keep the Taken Character list updated.

Right now, we would like to ask everyone to please go and check to make sure that your present characters are added on ONE of the lists (not both please), and that your past characters are off BOTH of them. If there is a mistake, then comment on the thread we need to fix. Specific players have been doing that lately, and it has been an immense help.

Regarding the gaming environment itself, as always we are open to new curse ideas and plots submitted to us by other players. Curses are to be submitted to the calendar and players with plot ideas can speak to any of the mods directly. Our emails ARE listed on the profile page.

☆Time for EVERYONE to Work☆

If you go to the Add/Remove list...you might notice something missing. That would be the Remove list.

We have worked out a new system, and you're either gonna love it or you're gonna hate it. We hope you love it, because you have no choice right now, and it's something we are ALL going to have to do...even us mods.

Us adding to the Add list is really not such a big deal. It's the Remove list that kicks our asses all the time. So to completely erase that problem, we have decided to erase that list.

Now how do you make sure everyone's removed? Once a month, all members are required to PURGE their Friend's Lists, and then simply copy and paste the Add lists once more. Currently, unless someone can find an admin code to purge all friends at once, that means clicking all those boxes to purge.

It sounds like a pain, but we would rather make that pain once a month instead of once a week. If you don't like it, and if you have a lot of characters, you can push it to two months...but try not to make it longer than that if you can help it. But we would like everyone to try this for at least a couple months before offering your full opinions. It really doesn't take as long to remove all those people as it sounds. Bonnie and I have tested it.

Now you still have to post on that thread when you drop a character obviously, so we can take them off the Add list. And, once again, make SURE your character is added, please.

Just wait until we say it's okay before purging, because there are definitely some inactives and a few dropped characters on the Add lists still, and we don't want to make you re-purge again right afterward. We've done a lot tonight, and we'll continue to clean it up when we do our Activity Check later on in the week.

Suggestions? Questions? Comments?

♥ So hard at work~

[identity profile] hajikemomo.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOOKED.

If I had my own computer avaliable at the moment, I'd help but uh... I don't. ;___; As I'm sure you've noticed given how much I HAVEN'T BEEN ON. WAH.

I do so very much love you, but I can't shoot you! Who else will conveniently leave Lux's characters off of the inactive list so that Hinamori still has her Hitsugaya?

[identity profile] lisped.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU GET THE SAD FACE.

Nah, I know. Bless, you'll break her heart. OH WELL IT WAS ABOUT TIME.

...Did I mention I haven't slept much recently? Between finishing Xeno III, starting FFXII, and ASDFGHJK FAMILY, I kinda don't... exist much anymore. That puddle on the floor = my braaaaaaain. ;__;

[identity profile] lisped.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Pish, not with my family. I'm on edge just thinking about my grandmum. --;

Everyone wants more time with me~~~~~ It's fine, it's a natural part of life. x3

Can't speak for others but I think I like the idea for the friend add thinger?

It requires less thinking than browsing through my flist to see who's been deleted or dropped :3;;

No rest for the wicked I says.

[identity profile] southrn-gent.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you folk need someone to help with all the technical stuff?
It sounds like you could use a break!
Then you could have more time for the fun things, like making up storylines and such.

Figured I would offer.
Let me know. I'm relatively busy -hence with the not posting so much- but I find html and things like that a real breeze.

TOTALLY HOT. HOLY DAMN.

I like the new add list policy. ♥ It can be a pain to remove one character journal at a time, but I have a semi-suggestion~? When my five characters were dropped, I literally scoured the web for any script that would effectively remove all friended journals in one go. (because 1750 clicks? what.) And I failed.

So~. Then I just copied the friends add list into Word, used the replace method and just changed all the adds to removes. It's better than individual clicking? :T

[identity profile] 6thsword.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I did to purge my dropped accounts, the Word thing. It's really quick and effective.

[identity profile] mechanicalmice.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I tried it, ti does get rid of a decent sized chunk ♥

[identity profile] black-ginryuu.livejournal.com 2007-01-06 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
After thinking about it for a few minutes, it would actually probably be easier to simply make sure every new character uses the friends add box, and then have existing players make sure they have all new players added by going through the "Fellow Friends" list in the "Edit friends" menu and making sure you are friends with everyone who is friends with you.

[identity profile] redex.livejournal.com 2007-01-07 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I went through and clicked all the little boxes for one of my characters and I barely had the patience to do it once, let alone every month. Just a suggestion. ^^ Good luck!

[identity profile] crimsonmangekyo.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I have 9 characters, a full-time job, plus class. I run my own independent cat rescue organization, and head a successful cosplay troupe. It is all that I can do just to keep my characters nice and active. There is no way I can go through all of that just to remove characters every couple of weeks.

[identity profile] innate.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly have just as much on my place, and I can still do it. And every couple weeks? I'm merely asking every couple MONTHS.

The suggestion to copy the add list into Word and then simply replace the word 'Add' with 'Remove' works perfectly, really, and really makes it so that you only have to manurally remove a few SNs after that.

I'll have us make a post to pass on this idea to everyone else.

[identity profile] crimsonmangekyo.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
ok, my initial understanding was that we were supposed to do this every week, which is simply not feasible. Every month or two sounds much more do-able.

And yes, the Word suggestion is made of shiney and awesome, please do make a post for that protocol. ^__^

[identity profile] innate.livejournal.com 2007-01-08 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
If you go back and read the actual post, I said every month or every other month.

Bonnie already made a post passing the Word idea onto everyone.

I know how annoying it is to maintain a community. D= Especially when people don't tell you if they're dropping their character or not. Inactive users drive me crazy.

I think this system is good. Maybe we can find a better way to keep track of the dropped characters sometime in the future.
