Stop the presses!

With the growth rate of [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic and player turn around, every now and then we like to post about the rules and regulations as an introduction to new players and a casual reminder to old players. We would like to reintroduce you to: the Info Page

If there are any questions you might have please don't hesitate to ask, either here in this post, via email, or via IM.

We would like to emphasize the following…

counter customizable free hitBecause IC/OOC can be so much a matter of perception, we consider all arguments for and against a mode of characterization whenever complaints are received. When we as a moderating team come to a conclusion that warrants a notice, we do send letters out as warnings, often by email. A more detailed version of how we handle matters of OOCness can be found here: Characterization Complaints

Any issues regarding Info/Godmodding fall under the Characterization Complaints as well. You may submit complaints on Activity to the Inactivity Thread. Both situations are handled more stringently with investigation and warnings, and are sometimes followed by a suspension (we prefer not to resort to this course of action, unfortunately it happens). Other issues can be submitted to our Problems Thread

We have to remind all our players that these threads are official venues for complaint submission. It's not our place to moderate IM conversations, chats, personal LJs, and non-poly related communities for Characterization, Activity, or Info/Godmodding issues. We will take informal complaints, comments, and nods in the direction of problematic threads or posts, but we have the most ability to take action when you lodge a formal complaint. Venting is good, but if you want action please use the process.

In addition to those issues, we want to emphasize what has always been listed on the Info Page

Keep OOC problems /out of character/. An RP is for fun; it isn't a personal battleground for you to have your characters start sniping at each other just because you dislike the player. You'll get booted out with no apologies if we find out that this is being done.

If a player is found to be using his or her characters as tools to provoke the characters of another player because of player issues, we will have to take immediate action. We consider this issue a higher priority than that of Characterization, Activity, or Info/Godmodding (unless one of these three issues is proven to be related to the harassment issue). We will not allow [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic to become a place where players feel uncomfortable posting entries for their characters because they fear that another player may use the opportunity to harass their characters, out of dislike for the player. If we receive complaints and see a pattern of behavior, we will act and determine if the pattern warrants a suspension, or worse a ban.

Still, we highly encourage players to work out such issues amongst each other first. More often than not it's simply an issue of miscommunication that can be remedied in IM, email, a player's Concrit Thread, or the seasonal How's My Driving? entry. If you feel your attempts at contact have been refused or have evidence that contact is simply uncomfortable, you must let us know. Because we take the issue of harassment very seriously, we will analyze both sides of the situation, and we do check for abuse of our complaint submission process.

In a game of 180 people or so, player differences are bound to occur. We suggest an alternative if you feel you are locking horns with another player, because conflict =/= harassment. To quote a section in this post,

"If you feel you absolutely cannot interact with a player because of some issue between the two of you, simply do not interact with that character or player. It's really quite straightforward.

RP is about improvisation: you can come up with a creative way around the situation. There is no excuse to claim that you are "forced" to interact with someone with whom you are incompatible. This excludes plot-related situations, of course, but you should be able to come up with an IC reason to keep away from that other person's character(s) in basic comment spam."

Fortunately in the game's near two year run, we rarely come across a kind of situation that warrants a suspension or ban. Yes there have been a few in the past, a few in present time, and there will likely be a few in the future. We like to err on the side of caution that people value their privacy, but if this isn't the case please let us know as we would consider opening a poll on the subject for the rest of the community.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact a moderator over a question or concern; rest assured we are usually here whether we are rarely or never seen posting public announcements. Our Problems and Characterization threads are always screened unless there's a specific reason to unscreen. And for the sake of tradition… remember this.

Deadpool is one of the best things to come out of Marvel Comics.

Even my employer encourages IM, so I'm online most of the time if anyone needs to contact me. All info is in my profile and our info page.
