PLAGUE PLOT
29-31; The Plagues of Poly
Blood in the water, frogs and flies, darkness! Stay tuned to this space for Polychromatic's way of closing out March!
Details details details! Get them right here!
March 29 | Day 1: Overnight the City's freshwater turns red with a substance that might be poisonous algae or poisonous blood...or poisonous blood algae! This sends the frogs and other aquatic creatures with legs or wings running from the lakes, ponds, rivers, creeks, and right into the City proper late morning. Meanwhile with the water dirtied and stagnant the insects are just blooming. Swarms rise from the woods at sundown to buzz around the entire City.
March 30 | Day 2: Thanks to the bugs from yesterday the animals of the City are under attack. Livestock are discovered sick--even dead--of flystrike and other bug-born diseases by morning. Citizens aren't safe either. Those unable to escape being attacked by insects get bumps, boils, and other unsightly skin infections as a result of each bug bite. To top it off, when night falls there's a heavy storm complete with hail, thunder, and lightning. A fire gains momentum in the forest shortly before midnight.
March 31 | Day 3: The fire's out by sunrise but the locusts still aren't happy. The beginning of sunrise is accompanied by the buzzing of locusts in swarms so thick they block out much of the City's sunlight. They aren't the only ones turning down the sunlight for the day but that's another story. Satisfied, the locusts depart at sundown--or maybe they know better than to stay--paving the way for the last event; nearing midnight a visit from the Angel of Death ready to take the firstborn of every family.
LAMBS
As the tale goes, a sizable smear of lamb's blood across the door is enough to ward the Angel of Death away but where can citizens get it? How convenient that lambs and sheep occupy the fields of the City, seemingly unharmed by the March 30 set of plagues. When did they appear? They began trickling in the day before the plagues started, of course. Yes, the lamb has to die for its blood to qualify however citizens are free to take their chances with only wounding a lamb for blood. This is considered player information; these details can be speculated by characters in-game as the Deities won't be explaining why, only how to ward off the Angel of Death...maybe. Characters can draw the lamb conclusion on their own of course.
FIRSTBORNS
For the purpose of this event, the 'firstborn' is the oldest in a family in the City, therefore if that character's older sibling isn't present in the game then firstborn will apply to the next oldest character available. Characters with no siblings are automatically firstborns. Again this is considered player information; these details can be speculated by characters in-game and characters can draw their own conclusions. The Deities won't be confirming the theory except to say better safe than sorry ♥
XANADU
As sacred gardens go, this is one of them. Characters wanting to escape the effects of the plagues are free to seek refuge in Xanadu. The garden will be completely unaffected; there will be no blood waters, biting bugs, hail, etc. in this sanctuary. This does not mean the Angel of Death won't visit Xanadu on the final day. Characters can argue about whether or not they should mark the gates to Xanadu just in case. They can also speculate if this is just the Deities' way of rounding them up in one place. Remember what happened to Prison Island? Just saying.
But don't worry, we come bearing spoilers: Xanadu will not blow up and death is not imminent when the Angel of Death visits. We won't tell you why. Yet, that is.

Maybe next time he won't save Dean's ass from Hell, huh? Then would he be less of an asshole?
Also I feel like the SPN foursome would be on top of this so fast. I'm excited as hell.

Annnd, is it possible for a character of considerable magic talents to try and ward buildings or rooms against insects? L-like, perhaps, to protect an ornery horse that loathes magic and as such would never submit to a more localized, specific spell...

Warding buildings or rooms against insects is possible. Non-magic methods like electrical bug zapping lamps are possible too, the effectiveness is as good or as bad as you want to make them.
