Citizens, enjoying these fine days of curseless relaxation? The perfect opportunity to rest a little, naaap, roll around -

…or not.

Whatever feeling of invasion your character previously experienced is about to intensify substantially.

On March 15, at 2 p.m. / 14:00 (EST) one of the City’s main communication towers, resting cosily by Building Three will be slowly but surely turning into wet sand.

The decorators called.”

It will initially preserve its natural colours and only visibly shift in texture, but it will slowly start looking like proper sand, changing completely within the hour.

Then, like any good sand castle, it will crumble down.

Thankfully, the process is gradual, and citizens have a six-hour window of opportunity to try to keep the tower from falling / take it down faster / investigate it as much as they want. Left to its own devices, the tower will collapse by 9 p.m.

A few warnings for the brave souls who’d like to venture inside the tower:
  • the entire tower, including the observation, maintenance and administration office levels - it's all made of sand; this makes it quite delicate, so there’s always the risk of a wall, or part of the ceiling coming down!
  • the unfortunate NPCs that attended on the tower will be found as statues. Likewise, their furniture, papers, food will turn up fossilized.
  • the air within the tower will be particularly stuffy, with the entire structure reeking of decay.
  • ...the longer characters stay inside the tower, the more they’ll come to feel stiff and lethargic, with the Clock’s intensified beating lulling them to sleep. If they fall asleep within the tower... well, the NPCs might not be the only ones reduced to stone. Note: there is no death exemption for this!
  • the verses of this fine song will be written in multiple versions on the sand floor of the ground level; if characters step on it, it will not recreate itself, so multiple search parties might have to be careful about that!

  • If the tower is allowed to fall, expect very heavy dust clouds and large masses of sand in the City for the next couple of days, along with the faint smell of mold and decay around the area.

As far as network devices go, expect glitches in communication throughout the day, varying from white noise to poor transmission and reception. All network broadcasts should return to their usual A+ performance levels by March 16.

Feel free to organize rescue / investigation / RUN MAN RUN parties, or just to offer up your character for participation in the comments!

…ok, I'm counting on Precto to keep the proper tab here, because I think this will be my tl;dr-est mod post yet. Dun dun dun!

    I.

Thar be inactivity results! Keep in mind that you are asked to post a minimum of two times a month, or else your character ends up on the inactivity post. If you'll be absent for a while, please declare your hiatus here; hiatuses automatically cover a month, but we accept neither hiatuses that are longer than a month, nor two /more hiatuses in succession.

ETA: old rule, but might need restating - if you cover your activity quota in the last two successive days of the month? We'll unfortunately still have to put your character on the inactivity list.

    If your character is on the inactivity list, but you would like to keep them, please leave a comment stating you'd like to reclaim them and post three times with them for the month of February. Yep, penalty, sad times. You have seven days to reclaim a character, so please think things through. If you know that the player of someone on this list is hiatus, please leave me a note. I'll be sure to put a red mark by the username of every reclaimed char, and to delete the characters that don't belong there yes, people, errors happen ;.;

Sooooo. We've been getting a few reports lately. OK, why kid ourselves? A number of reports – still lately. I think it's safe to say that a big player concern is that even though people meet the monthly POST requirement (presently, 2 posts / month!) , they don't tag / play / plot / log with their character – or that they "survive" from hiatus to hiatus, hogging characters unnecessarily.

Unfortunately, that can have very adverse effects on a crew. Let's not kid ourselves: [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic is a pretty big place. Last count revealed 166 players and quite a few hundreds of characters. This community is pretty fast running place, to boot. And thank you guys for keeping it that way! You're not signing up your life to POLYchro the moment you take up a character with it – but you have to keep in mind that there will inevitable be a number of people depending on you. It's not very fair to them to be perpetually let down, either.

It's perfectly understandable for people to have a bad period, because of either RL, or loss of inspiration – so taking a hiatus? Not a sin. But there's a significant difference between doing that occasionally, and being constantly unavailable.

So what are we doing about it? )

    III.

Did the monthly cleaning for the CHARACTER REQUEST THREAD, so please GO FORTH and frolic in its great abode, or some such!

It's been nearly a month since we sent certain characterization-related e-mails as a result of your polls + comments. If you feel that problems with the same people / characters have persisted (or would like to comment on other issues), please visit this thread.

    IV.

As y'all who've feasted yer eyes upon our lovely February Calendar and somehow survived the MACK TRUCK OF PINK DOOM, WTF BONNIE know, the How's My Driving Thread is looming by – and it be prawlin', boy, it be prawlin'.

For everyone who's unfamiliar with WTF sort of siding you eat that

HMD Thread : the Good, the Bad, the OH GOD MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOP. No, really. )

…dunno about you, I'm lubing my inbox.

Y HALO THAR, 2008!POLYchro. First activity check up o' this year, and unfortunately the messiest. I know a number of you have had to call a hiatus because of finals / holidays / etc, but unfortunately a good few only made a mention in [livejournal.com profile] poly_extra, and not the HIATUS post. The only reason I keep nagging you lot with doing that is because then I have a strict record of who's been out for how long, sooooo if you could make a memo there whenever you hiatus? Much obliged!

That said, if you know someone is hiatused (but has characters on this list), please make a note. If you see characters that have been dropped and are on this list, don't bother mentioning it, everything gets purged anyway.

Before the list itself, polling for activity again, since it's something that probably merits frequent inquiry:

    [Poll #1114021]

I know a number of you have expressed some concern about how some people are never more active beyond the obligatory quota / don't do commentspam / logs. Honestly, insofar, I've personally been unable to come up with a means of checking these details out that isn't... horribly laborious. However, if you have any suggestions, please say so! All input is good input.

General reminders: presently, you're required to post twice a month. If you repick a character from this list, you're expected to post three times for them for the month of January. This list will not be passed on to the REMOVE one until January 7, so you should have plenty of time to make up your mind on whether you want to give things another go. If a character is repicked, I'll put a jolly old ✗ by its name, yes ~ ?

I apologize in advance if there's anyone there that really shouldn't be - please leave me a note, if so. Thank you ~ !

    APPLICATIONS - NOTES

There's been a recent trend of providing Youtube links as information resources - we'd like to point out that we do not accept them and will not be viewing them. Our reasons are as follows:

  • time constraints;
  • youtube clips, like any particular instantiations of canon material [please don't provide us links to download the whole manga either; we've had it happen. A lot.] are a rather unreliable source. Why? Because, unless you are arguing that we should watch the entire show, they generally provide input on the character outside of his or her context.

  • Suppose you're apping girl A, and provide us a youtube clip. We watch it, and in the clip she seems to be very bratty and/or selfish, so of course what we expect to see in your app is a char that's bratty and selfish. Except, you know, maybe she was really only bratty and selfish in that particular instance because of canon considerations that we are not aware of - or maybe it's... dunno, genetic for everyone in her world to be particularly irritable, and she's actually mild and mellow compared to everyone else. Do we... see the problem here? If all we see are particulars, we lose track of the big picture.

What we expect from written material (a synopsis or characterization) is an asbtract that will provide us information on the overall, dominant and minor attributes of a characters. We understand that it can sometimes happen that written information is entirely less trustworthy; but in a majority of cases, it doesn't.

Further on applications and resources here

Likewise, while we definitely appreciate the attempt to culturalize us, please work around the idea that the majority of your moderators are foremost proficient in English. Your applications are in English, our forms are in English, this game is mostly played in English. Providing us resource material in Japanese, German, or any other language (those two, we've encountered the most often) will... probably not be a good idea, no.

Thank you for your time ~ !
