HMD [A - K]
Those who gave their names or nicknames on their applications and the Taken Character List as starting with A through K, please post here.

IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE! HMD, HMD! HOW'S MY DRIVING? PRETTY GOOD, RIGHT? AREN'T YOU THANKFUL?! GOBBLE IT UP, POLYCHROMATIDS~!!
Welcome back to our more seasoned members, and welcome to you first-timers.
HMD is the gamewide chance for feedback on playing here in
polychromatic.
And here's our philosophy on HMD: praise--it's all well and good (we all love it, yeah?), so if you want to give praise, love, ♥s, whatever, go for it! It's especially great to say what you ♥ so much about a character. For example, how they acted during X curse or Y plot was great, or how they adjusted (or didn't?) to the City was fascinating. But we all know, constructive crit is best when you're looking for advice on how to improve. What we really encourage here are questions. It gives you the chance to maybe understand something, (and maybe you think it makes sense after all now), and the player a chance to explain. For example:
"How did Gary get from Point A in canon to Point B in Poly? It didn't quite make sense to me."
"What started this whole fascination of Sue's with the bananas?"
And then you find out that there's a long, involved story that goes back six months involving the aftermath of a curse, a lizard, a pound of potatoes, a watermelon, three French maids, and a pogo stick. And then it all makes perfect sense.
Or perhaps it doesn't, but you've started a dialogue about the things you perceive versus the things the player perceives.
As decided by community vote, anon is not allowed here on the main HMD post, and IP logging is on. Sorry, Anon. However, we encourage posting a link to your own, personal, anon-enabled crit thread(s) if allowing anon is something you want to do and are comfortable with. But keep in mind that we moderators can't police those crit threads: not only are they anon, but they are on your own journals, and there are dozens of them. But we entreat members of this game to be polite and courteous, logged in or not. We will be watching the main post for any unrest, however, so keep that in mind. (We like to watch.) Let's all keep ourselves like civilized people, and have a decent time. Remember, no road rage in HMD.
To keep things organized, please post your comment in the following format*:
The general disclaimer, as usual, applies:
By choosing to post here on HMD, you may receive comments you don't necessarily enjoy. By posting here, you accept that this could happen, and you're basically okay with it. We will be monitoring this post for abuse and will shut down any instances of abuse we see. However, constructive crit, comments, or questions you just don't like do not count as abuse.
Whew. Now that that's all out of the way, have at it,
polychromatic!
*Please remember our requests regarding sparkles, images, embedded media, and other bits of coding. A little variation on the comment form is fine and tasty, and putting things like gifs or videos behind links or in collapsed threads is fine too, but please consider the loading time for others with slower connections. And take it easy on the placeholders: HMD isn't going anywhere.
And because it's apparently traditional for HMD posts to go up in the middle of the damn night, here we are. =_=v

Other comments? Ask me questions, tell me things. I'm glad of any comments, questions, remarks, advice, suggestions, thoughts, radio transmissions, or smoke signals regarding this quartet (how did I get so many?). I always get inspired after HMD--for whatever reason, it always makes me want to play more. I'm glad of any feedback at all. Let me know what you think.

Iiiiiiiiiiii selfishly wish there were a bit more of Hawkeye around? ;o; I think you're doing nicely with him, and I do enjoy seeing my favourite characters played nicely ;; (2)
I think that honestly, as an overall, the only crit I can bring you is that sometimes your character voices can blend a very little bit. It's not a very strong feeling, but I think it might not hurt to experiment a bit more with language patterns - perhaps not make them all as longwinded, or introduce certain verbal ticks? It might just be me, tho!
no subject
I still feel a little shaky with Hawkeye--like his jokes are too forced or he's unhappy at the wrong times. He does this weird switch thing in canon where one minute it's lololololjokelolol and then POW! WAR SUCKS AND I HATE YOU ALL >( I can't do the swap quite like in canon (obviously), so...eh, I love playing him, don't get me wrong, but poke me if I start getting off track, too lame in my jokes, or like I'm just trying too hard. I'm glad you're enjoying reading him. That's very encouraging to me.
I knoooooooooow I do that, especially with Cain and Alice. I mean, there are times when I myself see it and I just cringe. I've been feeling this one myself, so I'm glad you said you were seeing it too: it's not just my imagination. Sure, Cain and Alice are both of a similar era and country, but that's where it ends, Ed's from later in time, and Hawkeye's the other side of the pond. Don't blend, guys, really. I know it wouldn't hurt me at all to experiment a little more. My problem always is that if I'm going to make a post, I want to make a post. And that ends up being really amazingly tl;dr and ridiculous. I think I will experiment a little. I'll go check canons and things for some details and particulars, stuff I can throw in to make them different. Because, really, the last thing I want is for them to blend together.
♥! Thank you thank you thank you! Helpful as ever. Watch out for forthcoming tags.

And oh my god I love your Edmund. I can't get enough of him just taking almost everything in stride. I really like his relationship with Lucy, and I really would love to play with that more in the future. I'm so happy you picked him up.
&hearts, okay?

asdlkfjskaldf I'm glad you like him ;; I still feel like I'm getting settled in his characterization, his voice, and the rest of the Narnia crew. There's so much in-game development I've had to catch up on. You guys are amazing! So, since I'm still feeling newish, please don't hesitate to stop me if I get weird, okay? I'm glad I can play a decent Ed for the rest of the Narnia crew. It's actually a lot of fun to play a character like him: a lot of thoughts, not a lot of words. And, really, you get bounced around between worlds enough, you start taking things in stride |D Anyway, you can't have just three Pevensies, especially not at Christmastime, so I'm glad I picked him up too. I would love lovelovelove to play Ed&Lu more and often :3 I love their interactions. The younger two have to stick together~

Alice feels very...Alice to me. I FAIL WITH THE DESCRIPTORS TODAY 8C But she SOUNDS like her, and I can HEAR her when I read her posts and tags, and ldskjfsd;lksdfk;lfds I just kind of think she's lovely.
/not helpful
Ed....AHHHHHH! I AM SO SO SO GLAD ;-; AND AND AND HI HELLO HELLO HELLO /FAIFLSDJVPUIEJKLDFSOJDLS;
.../calms self /collects/ breathes
OKAY, EDMUND.../tries again:
He is the most distinct voice of your characters for me, perhaps for the most part because he involves a great deal of brevity in word but not necessarily in thought where your other characters seem to be both in equal parts. I enjoy the difference and I especially like the adequate and distinct dynamic he brings in completing the Pevensie four. Without him it really does feel like there is a missing piece, because, well, THERE IS. They each have their own strengths and without one of them it becomes almost PAINFULLY clear what they are missing. His threads with Lucy make me ;-; and his conversations with Caspian hail toward VDT days already in a sense of voice and age and understanding between king of old and king of new, which I LOVE. Him and Su are like Wall of Reason and I like that levelheadedness that gets balanced out nicely with such things as chasing pigs named Lab and faispalming at Caspian's antics concerning deliveries and so on. Just...lots of praise and appreciation. I know you're still settling with him [from reading the threads above] but I want you to know I'M SUPER grateful that you ARE taking the time to settle with him and that despite not being sure of him you are also enjoying it, because at the end of the RP day, enjoying it is what it NEEDS to be about [staunch on this I am] so...really just...yes.
❤

I'm so sososo glad Alice sounds like herself. I'm worried I'm sliding into something that's kind of "generic little girl cute". And Alice is a little girl, and she is cute, but she's not generic! She has a voice, and I was worried I was losing it. So I'm so glad that you like her and how she sounds~ I love having a cute character to throw around and be friendly and be scared and go floating about in pumpkin boats~
I UNDERSTAND YOUR KEYBOARD SMASHES NOW. I FEEL YOUR LOVE ;;
I'm so glad you like Ed. I really was feeling unsteady at first--and I still am, a little--because the crew is so big and so tightly-knit and so in communication and has so much in-game development--all of which is amazingly awesome and I love. I'm glad that he sounds like himself, though. That, I think, is the most important part. I am having fun playing him (I like thinking about how he must think after all the things he's seen and done and endured) but I also want to play him well because the crew is so big and complete and lovely. When I'm tagging with him, I sort of keep in mind that he's the diplomat, he's the counselor, he's the thinker. That seems to help me a lot. I love having him faceplam and take it all in stride and shake his head at his crazy family. I'm happy to have him here and to see how everything is coming together and tangling up ♥

I think it's amazing how consistent you manage to keep him, even after so many years in the City, and I love reading all his tl;dr whenever he posts. So I really hope you're having as much fun as I am whenever these two chat, because I love it and I hope it goes on for a long time.
Alice: Alice's icons are like the delicious, delicious icing on the cake of your fantastic RPing. I get such a definite voice out of her between the facial expressions and the writing, and she's just so much fun to interact with. I love reading her interactions with Blue and the other children of the City, and I think you've very much captured her spirit in how you play her. Writing for child characters isn't always the easiest thing in the world, but you do a great job of balancing her out, and she's fun to read and to talk to.
Edmund: Once he got over the whole traitor thing, Ed was always my favorite of the Pevensies. I haven't found a way to interact with him yet (and I don't want to be obnoxious and trolling every character you play so I sometimes worry about hitting you up too much, which has contributed to the not finding a way to interact with him thing somewhat), but I like following him around and watching his interactions with people. I think he's got a great voice, and I love that he so often seems to be the voice of reason amongst his siblings' shenanigans. =D

Re: Little Girl Lost: Thank you so much! She's a lot of fun to write and throw around with the other children in the City, but guh, no, child characters aren't easy to write for. I learned that the first time I tried to write child!Cain during a curse: he was ten, not three, but he sounded like he was three. And the thing about Alice is that she's pretty bright, even if she is seven years old. The thing about young characters is that they have to sound young without sounding stupid, and that can be extremely tricky. (My trick? I'll tell it just for lols: rereading Alice in Wonderland, of course, but also other books or movies with young, bright characters in them--the first Harry Potter, for example, or The Chronicles of Narnia.) It's hard to balance young-but-smart, so I'm glad that it seems like it's working so far |D I really love Alice interacting with Rosella--they're two peas in a pod in some ways--and I hope we can keep that up for a long time.
Re: That Other King: I hate to play favorites, but I think Ed has the best story out of all of them. I mean, he gets some angst and pain and suffering. The kid is nearly killed. More than once! He's got stuff on his mind and things to worry about. He's interesting, and I didn't realize quite how interesting until I got into writing my app for him. He and Susan are the Wall of Reason as Haku said. He'll just keep facepalming and sighing at those shenanigans (not that he doesn't get into them himself too, of course). Ah well. Please throw anyone you like at anyone I've got. Troll everyone. I love any and all interactions because they set up new CR, new situations, new problems, new things to talk about. So troll, talk to, bother, enrage, do as you please with any of mine :3
Really, if I can just say so, it's an absolute pleasure to RP with you. I'm glad so many of my characters can talk to yours. I hope we can keep it up for a very long time to come ♥
no subject
Re: Little Lady: That's absolutely one of the reasons why, whenever I curse Rosella into her younger self, I've never actually decided on a definite age for her. I usually guess it at somewhere around seven (because it makes it ten years down to go young and ten years up to grow up, which is simple), but that's a really tough balance to strike and I do think you do it really well. And I think Alice reminds Rosella a lot of herself at that age, what with the curiosity and the adventurousness, which is why she's felt invested in Alice's well-being almost from the minute they met.
Also, together they can gang up on Blue.Re: Just (In Time): I think Ed and Rosella should play chess sometime. Presumably someday when she's not a complete wreck and all, but yeah, they should hang out. Get coffee. Be royalty, IDK. Someday I will find a way for this to occur.
I hope so, too. ♥ I always have so much fun interacting with you and your characters, and I look forward to much, much more in the future!

Alice - There's really something about your Alice that reminds me of exactly how it felt to be reading the books she's from. A certain, I don't know, sense of whimsy to her, she has a curious way of speaking that sounds just right, but at the same time you manage to convey how young a child she still is. It's rather wonderful to see a character like her in the City, being portrayed so well, and a special treat to get to interact with her.
no subject
Aaaaadn thank you for this too ;; Alice is so well-known, so iconic, and so famous that I try very, very hard to keep her accurate. It's the same thing I did with Sherlock Holmes: keep them as close as possible to canon because so many people know them and love them. So I'm glad it seems to be working ♥ I'd love to throw her at Road sometime, just because the lolis need to talk >:3
♥~!! We've played together so much and so often and I don't know that I've ever told you thank you for that--THANK YOU ;; I love playing with you and I'm glad you like my characters. I hope we can keep playing for a long time to come.
no subject
You do very very well at keeping her accurate! So it's definitely working. S-sob, the thought of Alice and Road talking scares me silly. But sure, we can do that XD Thankfully I don't think Alice is anything like her usual sort of target.
It's true, it's already been so long! I've been with Poly over two years now *-* And probably been bothering you with my characters ever since I got here. Playing with you is always a pleasure and I really do hope we get to play more. Thank you ♥

And HAWKEYEEEE. When you first picked him up in Amat, I lawled and was like "YES. A GOOD MASH RPER." And now that you've brought him to Poly? ilu. I love his snark and sarcasm and Raikov is totally eyeballing him if they ever go drinking again. 8| (and will curse at himself for liking an American.)
no subject
AH HA HA ARE YOU A FAN??? SCORE AGAIN!!! I liked having him in Amat, but, IDK, he seems to fall into place in Poly so much easier. I'm glad I didn't drop him both places (like I had considered). I had NO idea he'd hit it off so well with Raikov. Like I said, I realized the two of them were almost of an era, which is funny to begin with, and now with each of them on the wrong side of the Cold War, not to mention their opinions of said war, well--!! They totally need to go drinking again. It'll be great. (I'm thinking of making a miniplot for Hawkeye in which he rebuilds the famous still...)
Eyeballing? Eyeballing? Eyeballing?
Margaret: There isn't a nurse in this camp they haven't tried to molest.
Trapper: Except for the male ones.
Hawkeye: ...speak for yourself.
I'll just leave this here... But I also want to say THANK YOU :D It's tons of fun to play off of you and I hope we'll be able to keep on playing for a long time to come!

So. Alice. I love Alice. I watched the Disney film countless times--so many times, in fact, that the video stopped working. I haven't read the book in ages (you've made me think that I ought to do that), but your Alice seems wonderfully IC. Her voice is excellent--very proper, but not so mature as to make her sound like anything other than an exceptionally bright child. She's also much better at communicating with cats than most people in the City, which Justin appreciates immensely.
I still don't know a thing about Cain outside of Poly, but I adore him. Keep tl;dring!
Also, thank you for being so very approachable as a mod and putting up with my pathetic attempts at OOC communication. ♥ As a shy player who has a hard time talking to anyone, let alone mods, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that.
no subject
♥ Thank you so much ;; (I do recommend rereading (or reading for the first time) the book~ You can actually read it online for free at Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page), just so you know~ /pimps that place like mad. So since you know her canon, I'm so glad you like her. It's a little nerve-wracking to play such a well-known character, but she's so much fun to play. And I think I've managed to pull off what I aimed for with her, from what you've said: a bright child, but still a child. I'm very happy--thank you~!! Well, it's rather canon that she's good at at least talking to cats. Whether they understand her... But it happens more than once in Through the Looking-Glass! So I'm rolling with that. (I think she needs to be a cat sometime...maybe this weekend >:3)
He'll tl;dr forever, I think |D I'm glad you like him! That's what's most encouraging to me, because we're all playing together, right? So it's good to have characters that are interesting so other people will toss theirs at your own.
♥ I can't imagine not trying my best to be approachable and available (although I've been fail on AIM lately thanks to school and needing to concentrate). I can be pretty shy in real life sometimes, so I can sympathize (although only a very little). You're welcome--always welcome--and don't hesitate to drop a line any time :3

Cain is fabulous as always. I still haven't read his canon yet so I have no real criiiiit. But it's on my list of stuff to read eventually. /probably said that last HMD too
no subject
Ah ah ha thanks |D He's quite fabulous, isn't he? READ IT SOMEDAY~ I enjoyed it (obviously). I have so much stuff on my to-read list thanks to RP and HMD, oh man. But I am glad you like him~ Tag him anytime you'd like :D And I'll keep on doing what I'm doing!
