How's My Driving?
[PROCEED]

IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE! HMD, HMD! HOW'S MY DRIVING? PRETTY GOOD, RIGHT? AREN'T YOU THANKFUL?! GOBBLE IT UP, POLYCHROMATIDS~!!

Welcome back to our more seasoned members, and welcome to you first-timers.

HMD is the gamewide chance for feedback on playing here in [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic.

And here's our philosophy on HMD: praise--it's all well and good (we all love it, yeah?), so if you want to give praise, love, ♥s, whatever, go for it! It's especially great to say what you ♥ so much about a character. For example, how they acted during X curse or Y plot was great, or how they adjusted (or didn't?) to the City was fascinating. But we all know, constructive crit is best when you're looking for advice on how to improve. What we really encourage here are questions. It gives you the chance to maybe understand something, (and maybe you think it makes sense after all now), and the player a chance to explain. For example:

"How did Gary get from Point A in canon to Point B in Poly? It didn't quite make sense to me."

"What started this whole fascination of Sue's with the bananas?"

And then you find out that there's a long, involved story that goes back six months involving the aftermath of a curse, a lizard, a pound of potatoes, a watermelon, three French maids, and a pogo stick. And then it all makes perfect sense.

Or perhaps it doesn't, but you've started a dialogue about the things you perceive versus the things the player perceives.

As decided by community vote, anon is not allowed here on the main HMD post, and IP logging is on. Sorry, Anon. However, we encourage posting a link to your own, personal, anon-enabled crit thread(s) if allowing anon is something you want to do and are comfortable with. But keep in mind that we moderators can't police those crit threads: not only are they anon, but they are on your own journals, and there are dozens of them. But we entreat members of this game to be polite and courteous, logged in or not. We will be watching the main post for any unrest, however, so keep that in mind. (We like to watch.) Let's all keep ourselves like civilized people, and have a decent time. Remember, no road rage in HMD.

To keep things organized, please post your comment in the following format*:

The general disclaimer, as usual, applies:

By choosing to post here on HMD, you may receive comments you don't necessarily enjoy. By posting here, you accept that this could happen, and you're basically okay with it. We will be monitoring this post for abuse and will shut down any instances of abuse we see. However, constructive crit, comments, or questions you just don't like do not count as abuse.

Whew. Now that that's all out of the way, have at it, [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic!

*Please remember our requests regarding sparkles, images, embedded media, and other bits of coding. A little variation on the comment form is fine and tasty, and putting things like gifs or videos behind links or in collapsed threads is fine too, but please consider the loading time for others with slower connections. And take it easy on the placeholders: HMD isn't going anywhere.

And because it's apparently traditional for HMD posts to go up in the middle of the damn night, here we are. =_=v

player name: jesse
characters played:

Naminé | Kingdom Hearts | [livejournal.com profile] copulae
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce | Angel | [livejournal.com profile] discessum

anonymous allowed/encouraged?: Allowed, for certain, since I know it's sometimes easier to get the message across. I encourage people to be willing to come to me openly, though. I'd never get mad at someone for having honest crit.
other comments? Currently I'm sort of struggling on directions to take with both Naminé and Wesley. It's not that I'm having trouble writing their character, but I struggle with letting them find their 'place' in the City, so to speak, so any suggestions on that would be especially helpful.

I'm not familiar with either of the canon's. But I'll often find myself reading your Namine. I am only familiar with her through interactions at another Role play, but I enjoy reading the way you portray her.

I really have to play Kingdom Hearts some day. -_-

JESSE.

I don't know anything about Naminé's canon, so let's stick with what I do know.

I can't say anything about your Wes I haven't already, but once more, with feeling: You have seriously ruined me for playing with any other Wesley. As far as I'm concerned, yours is Wesley. Full stop. I think you hit the perfect balance with him on... well, everything.

I love playing Faith off him, because you get it; their dynamic, the way they're alike in certain ways, and how their pasts damage them to the point where they can't really be anything but at least somewhat antagonistic. And even when I want to beat both their heads against rocks, it always feels right. I don't think I've ever really had to explain any behind the scenes character stuff to you, you just get it, which is amazing and invaluable.

I've been stalking Fred and Wes, too, and I've loved what I've seen. Faith never gets the slightly softer Wes, but Fred does, and you play that side equally well.

So, tl;dr: KEEP ROCKING. NO SERIOUSLY, DO BECAUSE IF YOU EVER LEFT I MIGHT CRY. :|

I stalk your Wesley like a creeper. >.> And think of you whenever I watch Angel and he's on screen.

I am really seriously enjoying playing Fred against Wesley, and I like seeing him around. I love Wesley to death, and he's absolutely perfect. :3 You know all these things.

I do get what you're saying about direction, though, because I'm feeling that with Fred, too. It's kind of odd, since you'd think that with Angel Investigations up and going again, they'd just...continue on with that. There's certainly enough weird things going on in the City that there's plenty of detective work to do. But it's not as...I don't know, not as mechanically playable as I'd expect, so it's sometimes hard to set things up. And of course, there are also things that are beyond their scope of what they can even help with, and that makes things somewhat difficult, too. I end up feeling rather idle with Fred- of course, that could be partially because I haven't had time to play her much lately.

Anyway, if there's anything that I can help with as far as helping with plot-stuff through Fred (or even Sylar), always feel free to ask! I unfortunately can't think of anything in particular at the moment, but maybe it'll pop up and help cement your character a little better into the setting. And I'm always happy to roll with a plot. :3

See above re: stalking Wesley like a creeper. He cannot be the easiest character to play and yet you get him perfectly, it's like reliving my days in the Buffy/Angel fandom without needing to rewatch a thing. Really, really he is epic.

Oh, Wes. The voice, the re/actions, everything is so very solidly him. I'm trying to think of something you could improve on, but honestly nothing comes to mind. There's this great roundness about him that you've got going on and to be quite honest, I stalked him for awhile before actually getting the guts to apply into Poly. His journal was my gateway into the Angel cast here and while I don't love him on the show I found myself eager to read more of him here!

As far as direction to take him in, maybe taking some risks would help. Find a curse that will shove him into something new? Or, you know, I've got the deus-ex-machina demon right here if ever you'd like Lorne to jumpstart Wes on some sort of new path. Just spitballin', here ;)

NAMINEEEE.

I'm not being at all useful this HMD. Just want you to know that I've always liked Namine in the game, but man you make me love you. You bring out all the sides of her that other people just don't explore, and I love it!

D'awwww, I think your Wesley is awesome. A lot of people don't really get him right after S3 when he becomes ~darker~ and isn't a bumbling nerd anymore. But I think you pull him off exactly the way he should be, because... his character becomes a gazillion times more complex, and I think you give him all the levels he needs. As for his 'place' in the City, maybe he needs to invent his own monster-fighting gang again or something haha. IDK. But I can imagine him getting fed up with relying on the Police force and others. ♥♥
