HMD [A - K]

HMD [A - K]

Those who gave their names or nicknames on their applications and the Taken Character List as starting with A through K, please post here.

How's My Driving?
[PROCEED]

IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE! HMD, HMD! HOW'S MY DRIVING? PRETTY GOOD, RIGHT? AREN'T YOU THANKFUL?! GOBBLE IT UP, POLYCHROMATIDS~!!

Welcome back to our more seasoned members, and welcome to you first-timers.

HMD is the gamewide chance for feedback on playing here in [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic.

And here's our philosophy on HMD: praise--it's all well and good (we all love it, yeah?), so if you want to give praise, love, ♥s, whatever, go for it! It's especially great to say what you ♥ so much about a character. For example, how they acted during X curse or Y plot was great, or how they adjusted (or didn't?) to the City was fascinating. But we all know, constructive crit is best when you're looking for advice on how to improve. What we really encourage here are questions. It gives you the chance to maybe understand something, (and maybe you think it makes sense after all now), and the player a chance to explain. For example:

"How did Gary get from Point A in canon to Point B in Poly? It didn't quite make sense to me."

"What started this whole fascination of Sue's with the bananas?"

And then you find out that there's a long, involved story that goes back six months involving the aftermath of a curse, a lizard, a pound of potatoes, a watermelon, three French maids, and a pogo stick. And then it all makes perfect sense.

Or perhaps it doesn't, but you've started a dialogue about the things you perceive versus the things the player perceives.

As decided by community vote, anon is not allowed here on the main HMD post, and IP logging is on. Sorry, Anon. However, we encourage posting a link to your own, personal, anon-enabled crit thread(s) if allowing anon is something you want to do and are comfortable with. But keep in mind that we moderators can't police those crit threads: not only are they anon, but they are on your own journals, and there are dozens of them. But we entreat members of this game to be polite and courteous, logged in or not. We will be watching the main post for any unrest, however, so keep that in mind. (We like to watch.) Let's all keep ourselves like civilized people, and have a decent time. Remember, no road rage in HMD.

To keep things organized, please post your comment in the following format*:

The general disclaimer, as usual, applies:

By choosing to post here on HMD, you may receive comments you don't necessarily enjoy. By posting here, you accept that this could happen, and you're basically okay with it. We will be monitoring this post for abuse and will shut down any instances of abuse we see. However, constructive crit, comments, or questions you just don't like do not count as abuse.

Whew. Now that that's all out of the way, have at it, [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic!

*Please remember our requests regarding sparkles, images, embedded media, and other bits of coding. A little variation on the comment form is fine and tasty, and putting things like gifs or videos behind links or in collapsed threads is fine too, but please consider the loading time for others with slower connections. And take it easy on the placeholders: HMD isn't going anywhere.

And because it's apparently traditional for HMD posts to go up in the middle of the damn night, here we are. =_=v

Overall, Inara is a comprehensive character and you pull her off so well. By that I mean that everything she does matches everything she feels and is thinking. How she speaks, how she reacts, how she dresses; the fact that she's so openly calculated leaves little to play with within that character except even without curses you seem to find a way to do that as well.

You're aware of her biggest flaws and are very okay with playing them out. The control issues, the extreme Mal baggage, etc. You also play to her strengths, of course, but I think the fact that you're okay with taking this perfect companion and making her more than that? How you insist she's a teacher more than anything, I love the hell out of that.

Inara was never my favorite character in the series, but she's so close to Kaylee on my list now, and it's your fault. As far as something for you to improve on? I'm drawing a blank. I'll tell you what I'd like to see, instead. I'd LOVE to see her be pushed out of her comfort zone more by her friends in the City. Some titles might be: Inara Plays Paintball, Inara and the Moped, Inara Wears Denim, Inara and the Very Large Super Messy Funtastic Food Fight.

okay so I got a little away from srs bsns there but I still mean it all ♥

:D Thank you!! Inara thanks you as well because she insists I don't write her, I'm simply the typist.

Oh she's totally going to get pushed out of her comfort zone regardless of whether she likes it or not. She's horrified by most of the titles there but IDC. Horrifying her is fun.

I don't know if this is FEEDBACK as much as it's a sort of random question.

Is Inara working in the City as a Companion? I only ask since Dorian canonically frequents prostitutes and he sort of would probably be her kind of clientele - uh, well, maybe - if she was?

I KNOW THIS A SUPER AWKWARD QUESTION. sob.

[identity profile] only-fell.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
DUDE I play a companion! ;) It's fine.

She's not working as a companion and I don't know if she will? Mostly because Inara is pretty clear it's the guild and her choice that designates her as a companion rather than a whore. Dorian is completely her kind of clientele though. He's like a little slice of her world with a few hundred years separating them. I'd honestly love to get them to be friends at least because I think they'd be such fun. I don't know if she'll ever practice professionally again though.

Did that answer your question? And bring the awkward questions on ;)

I think you've really got a grip on Inara's maturity and... almost aloof dignity. She's not the most in-your-face character from her series and you play up her subtleties and the information we have about her very well. I'm also glad that her career (or former career) isn't defining her in the city, but neither is it completely overlooked. It's going to be very interesting watching her continue to develop and adapt to the new surroundings.

A-and I'm so sorry about my continued fail.

[identity profile] only-fell.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much. I'm glad you get all of that from her. It's what I try for and hope I achieve.

Psh you are no fail. This is a really busy time. I'm always up for slow time/back tag. I actually wanted to ask you if House, Chase and any other doctor types would like to play with investigating Inara's disease. I don't honestly know that they'd be able to cure it since they can't cure it in her time either but if they want a case and a patient to poke some, I'm offering her up. Eventually I think she'll die from it and go City!Dead.

[identity profile] worksmart.livejournal.com 2009-11-27 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I am super fail and if you want to continue that log I swear I will get to it. I also think investigating Inara's disease would be very interesting. Chase has prodded around with a few mysterious cases in the city so far, one more never hurts, and I'm sure the whole House team would be on board for having a new mystery illness to work with. It might be a good idea to work out exactly how what she has manifests and the anomalies that could be found / if there is any way you want to cure or treat it, however.

Alllso I know there was an Inara in the city some time ago who had some medical check ups done by House, so that could be something to run by Molly.

[identity profile] only-fell.livejournal.com 2009-11-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. Do you have email or aim? We could plan it out via that if you like.

I'd rather keep away from what the last Inara did.

[identity profile] alittlewild.livejournal.com 2009-11-28 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I like your Inara, I remember so little about that series but I think you have her ability to be whatever someone might want down really well. That empathic taking the role they need thing she seemed to do.

I am sorry that her and Shalimar got off to such a bad start, they could have totally discussed having an incurable disease and dying. And that's my useless comment.

[identity profile] only-fell.livejournal.com 2009-11-28 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.

Eh it happens sometimes with characters. Inara in general doesn't hold a grudge. She's too afraid of coming back as a cockroach in the next life so they can always kind of start fresh.

[identity profile] rogueintent.livejournal.com 2009-11-28 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Shalimar holds grudges, but only with people who have earned it. All Inara did was annoy her because she wouldn't give her an answer. And if Inara stays a friend of Brennan's then Shalimar would make an effort to be nice.

[identity profile] only-fell.livejournal.com 2009-11-28 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well Inara likes Brennan as a friend so unless something changes there, I expect them to stay friends and as I've said, Inara will always make the effort to be nice to Shalimar because she's friends with Priestly. We'll see how it goes with them.
