How's My Driving?

H.M.D.?!
[I KNOW YOU'RE EXCITED!!]

How It Works:
[1] List your name and your characters for which you would like some feedback (use our handy form, if you like)!

[2] Please refrain from posting pictures, .gifs, videos, giant text, sparklies, blinking and moving tags, and &c. outside of collapsed threads. For the sake of our sanity and our load times. You are welcome to link to them in top-level comments, but otherwise please save 'em for collapsed threads.

[3] Open hands, await feedback and go forth and leave some polite thoughts, crit, questions, concerns, comments, suggestions, or any combination of the above for your fellow players about their respective characters. In this, we really encourage you to ask questions and get explanations about what has gone into characterization decisions. Communication is key. Find out what went into an action or decision and you may come to understand it better. Let's talk it out.

[4] Please try to be polite and constructive. Can't stress that enough, can I? Give suggestions and ask questions! Be constructive! But please also refrain from using "placeholder" comments. HMD isn't going anywhere, I promise!

[5] If you'd like, you can certainly list your personal HMD posts and contact posts over in the POLYchromatic Rainbow Pages directory.

[6] As per our community poll, Anonymous is off. We'd also like to request that sockpuppets not be used on this HMD. You are welcome to post a link to a personal HMD thread where Anonymous is allowed; these threads are your own lookout.

The form:

To the best of my abilities, I'll keep an ongoing and alphabetical list of everyone's HMD comments here below for your browsing pleasure.

Player name: Kimmeh!
Characters played: Itsuki "Ikki" Minami :: Air Gear :: [personal profile] stormking.
Personal concrit link: always right here.
Anonymous allowed/encouraged? Y/N: YYYYY.
Other comments?

Let's be honest here, this is my first time playing from both Air Gear and seriously playing a main protag/shounen hero. Until now, I've really only dabbled in that sort of quaint little mix of horror. If you're familiar with the canon, please tell me how I'm doing! How is my voice? Is he shounen enough? Is he barely reaching that meter? Is he too much of horrible person? Not enough of a horrible person?

Please, ask me questions or even just give me general impressions. I enjoy concrit of all sorts.

GIVE ME YOUR EVERYTHING!

ARGH! I LOVE YOUR IKKI SO VERY MUCH! HE'S SUCH A DELIGHTFUL LITTLE TROUBLEMAKER!

Srsly, I adored his little philosphical chat with Karl. His mannerisms and attitude are fabulously IC, and I'm mightily hoping they have more interactions soon! <3

Uwaaaa! I'm really glad to hear it! Especially because I know I could have handled the post they met on a hell of a lot better, but baaaaah. Learning experiences.

They will absolutely have more cr, especially as I'm trying to get better about tagging stuff outside of the AG cast. I always get really nervous about that sort of thing when I'm like "THIS VOICE IS STILL NEW!!".

It's been two days since we tagged—what is this, what are we doing with our lives.

... o right, you're out on vacation. Still.

I'm sure you've exhausted all patience by now for comments about how much your Ikki's adored. Too bad. I love how much you play up his terrible moments: how he's petty and a bastard and kind of gross, okay—and at the same time so obviously, terribly awkwardly devoted to his team that it's charming and awful all at once. You put a lot of coding thought into him, it shows and it's a delight every time to tag him, whether it's bickering or excess bullying or those rare pre-bickering moments where he approximates something like to seriousness and probably causes skirtflips throughout Air Gear by doing so. I love that he takes everything to 12, even if it's absolutely silly. It just seems very much in keeping with Itsuki "That Crazy Flying Bastard" Minami, and I adore reading it, playing off of it, etc! Sometimes I re-read our threads and make incoherent ♥♥♥ gestures. IT'S ALL ENTIRELY DESERVED, OKAY.

The one thing I'd ask for clarification on is—actually something that hasn't technically come up in gameplay! So I got curious. You mentioned in the questions meme that he didn't give a damn about the city at large in trouble so much as Agito's trecks, in the desert. Which flies against the whole shounen save-the-world vibe! I was wondering if you'd expand—how do you see Ikki's views on saving folks?

... look, it's three AM and I tried very hard to bring something constructive, I'm going to bed now. If we don't have at least one thread going by the end of the next three days, I will cry.

Also, in before the rest of the cast.

Holy shit, I know! What the hell is wrong with us? I need so much more Thorn tags in my life? In fact. . . I feel myself getting weak without them!

Admittedly, I almost wrote you a really ineloquent response to this, but I curbed the desire because you sat down and took the time out to write me this lovely little piece of love. You clearly deserve much more than some keysmashing and heart symbols! I really gotta say, hearing that you actually go back and reread our threads is embarrassingly and endlessly endearing. I thought I was the only one who did that! Playing off of you (and the rest of the cast) really wants me to strive to do better, to be better, and be everything you guys could possibly want in a horrible Crow Boss. I can't tell you how many times I've just flipped back through a couple chapters to make sure I at least sound somewhere in the ballpark of Ikki. Although never at other Ikkis because I might give myself some sort of complex by doing that. I feel like he comes really naturally to me, which is incredibly jarring, so I'm constantly second-guessing myself because I'm really not used to that. I am used to having to hammer into a voice and feeling comfortable because I conquered that shit. So, you know, while that makes it really easy to thread, this voice in my head is like "AAAAA YOU'RE FUCKING IT UP, LETTING EVERYONE DOWN".

So, it is really nice to hear that I'm not!! I AM BLESSED WITH THIS WONDERFUL CAST. God, can I just hold all of you. . .

Anyway! As for Ikki re: The City. I touched on it a little bit before I went onto my long ramble about the brain slugs and whatnot because that was the most recent and jarring development for Ikki at the time, but I didn't really hit on well enough since I didn't feel like it was entirely important. The way Ikki sees the City is not as a situation Where People Need To Saved. Their living situation is the best that Ikki has ever had, the fancy hotel and Sano's place not taken into consideration since those were both very brief and fleeting experiences, and there does not seem to be any actual danger. The City seems more like a very long and realistic dream to him, mostly because he was thrown back into the "Real World" and everything proceeded like nothing happened because nothing did happen. It's really. . . almost as if there are no true consequences at all. That feeling has kind of cemented itself in his head, mostly because he hasn't actually experienced anything sinister inside of the city to give that impression.

So, basically, it's like why we he save them? What is he saving them from? Eventually, everyone is gonna wake up and go back about their lives. Hell, they might even forget about it like he did—well, partly. Nonetheless, it must be possible to entirely forget it as well, so yyeaaah. It's a dreamland of sorts. I am HONESTLY biding my time until something happens to change his mind about it, but until then? Weeeee!

God, I hope that makes sense and fits in line with Ikki.

Now, as for his actual views on saving people. . . There is a lot about Ikki that sets him somewhat apart from the usual Shounen Hero type. Namely, Ikki isn't that much of a Hero. After all, he's a previously gang member! His mentality seems to be beat them into submission, and then kill them if you must. More often that not, shounen heroes try to be like batman and refuse to kill anyone. FOR ANY REASON. When he saves someone, it's almost always someone he is attached to in some sort of way. A notable example would be Agito vs the Bulls, and Ikki interferes after he gets seriously hurt and the fight is pretty much over. His general mentality is along the lines of "this isn't right, I'mma put a stop to it" when to comes helping people, so it really boils down to Ikki's really weird sense of morality and honour. I mean, he worked for that horrible cult in the Loki costume despite. . . everything wrong with that, and only made a move against it when he saw Kazu was involved because THAT WASN'T RIGHT AND HE WAS GONNA STOP IT. Yeah, everyone else can throw away their lives to a cult even though they were all totally manipulated into it (and I doubt he was blind to that considering who got him the gig!), whatever. WHO CARES.

On top of that, often people need to be saved from Ikki since he is a huge bully!! Seriously! Come on, he's a total asshole and not above torturing people just for the hell of it. Or punching someone back for hitting him, regardless of what reason it was for. He's got his own really weird way of thinking, so depending on the time of day, he's either on the low end of the morality spectrum or the high end. He's as fickle and harsh as the wind, pardon the pun!
